Marae is a lifelong Cincinnati-area resident. Growing up in the country allowed her to develop a love of horses and other animals. One of Marae’s personal passions lies in the welfare of animals. She says her house is a happy little zoo with fur babies that include 2 horses. She also has a strong connection to the LGBT community as their issues are of particular interest to her as a member of the community.
Marae loves working with people by developing relationships and helping others navigate the struggles people go through during the coming out process. She says that while she didn’t choose this clinical path, she is grateful that it chose her many years ago. She says that “everyone has a story and I want to know yours!” She strongly believes that people can recover from addiction and mental health issues given the necessary tools.
She received her Bachelor’ of Psychology from the University of Cincinnati and her Masters in Social Work at the University of Kentucky. She has over 30 years of counseling experience and has worked in community mental health, community corrections, chemical dependency, and practiced at the Dayton VA in mental health and substance abuse treatment. Marae is trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Interpersonal Therapy.
Marae lives by her favorite quote: “Laughter is the best medicine!”
